WB Board Confirms August Exam Schedule for Primary Teacher Recruitment
Kolkata, May 2 – The West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) has officially announced the application dates for the West Bengal Teacher Eligibility Test (WB TET) 2025, triggering a wave of preparation among aspiring primary school teachers across the state.
As per the notification, the online application window will open on May 20, 2025, and continue until June 10, 2025. The exam is tentatively scheduled for August 25, 2025.
Eligibility Criteria and Exam Details Released
According to the board, the WB TET 2025 will be conducted for Class I to V teacher eligibility, following guidelines set by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
Eligibility Includes:
- Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks and 2-year D.El.Ed
- Or Graduation with B.Ed.
- Final-year D.El.Ed and B.Ed candidates are also eligible
Exam Format:
- 150 MCQs, each carrying 1 mark
- Subjects: Child Development, Language I & II, Mathematics, Environmental Studies
- No negative marking

Officials Expect Record Applications Amid Teacher Vacancies
A senior WBBPE official stated that the board is expecting over 8 lakh applications this year. “There are more than 15,000 primary teacher vacancies across Bengal. This TET cycle is critical,” the source said.
Job aspirants, especially from rural districts like Murshidabad, Bankura, and Alipurduar, have already begun enrolling in coaching classes and mock test series.
Aspirants Demand Early Recruitment After TET
While the announcement was welcomed, many candidates demanded faster recruitment timelines after the exam. “We gave TET two years ago but are still waiting for posting,” said Soumi Karmakar, a candidate from Hooghly.
Teacher unions have urged the education department to begin the recruitment drive immediately after TET results are declared, likely in October 2025.
